A2 Short Film - Sound and Score

As a psycho-thriller film our piece automatically demands a high quality sound mix to conform to the conventions of conveying emotion and story through sound, therefore we decided that we would need a good mix of different elements.

Because we filmed outside, there is an awkward whistle in most of the clips, therefore, we have muted those to instead get our own prerecorded sound to replace this with that we were able to control and monitor ourselves. Examples of this included the wind blowing through the trees and prerecorded

The prevalent theme of time and the contrast between the fantastical and reality is something that we tried to explore through sound. This included the deteriorating mental state of the protagonist, so, to try and achieve all of these we had a ticking sound play throughout the film. This was often diegetic with the shots of clocks and watches, but generally came from an outside source. To couple with this there is a faint white noises at points in the film, most prominently when the dream sequences are ending, at later at the end of the film when the protagonist and audience are made aware of the girl's disassociation with him, the audio begins to distort, with the white noise making a return.

In terms of background music, we decided that something calm would juxtapose with the general plot, this music is Past Has Not Passed by James Blackshaw and is a guitar track.
